So far, this has been a "near" perfect experience. Able to look down over a ledge from the tallest trees. It's crazy to think that I was playing a 2D version in the 1980's, yet here I am immersed inside the world itself. Last night I was able to just stand on the 3rd level of the tree village, and take it all in. Specifically because you get to travel to very high locations up in the towering trees. A legend can only be re-invented so many times before we're like, "okay yeah, I get it." lolĬhannelwood has always been my favorite of all the ages, second only to Myst Island. But keep in mind that Myst is still just. They used the exact same approach to rebuild Myst for VR. Remember that Cyan already released Obduction specifically for VR some 2 years ago.
it definitely feels like I'm in Myst, and the VR controls are perfect. I plan to spend many hours on it this weekend to continue my journey. They did this right, as far as I can tell. Myst VR is definitely NOT that, or anything similar. Pathing, scale, and interactions were not properly implemented.
I was not impressed with Real Myst, as it made everything clunky and didn't flow well at all. In fact, I own every Myst game, and version. Hah - I actually wondered the same thing at first (and I kept it to myself). I am kind of worried that this VR version will just be Real Myst in VR and that's not what I want. The fact that they did not show the Island in there trailer says a lot, I am not expecting much.

I don't have a Quest 2 so we will see how this game looks when it comes to PC with the G2. I want to see small waves hitting the island shore, if i turn my head to look at some of the rocks I want to maybe see some seagulls nesting and flying around in the back. I want no compromises in Half-Life: Alex graphics. Real Myst came out in like 2014 and they actually re-created the island in a 3d game engine. The 1993 game was just static rendered images, you would click your mouse and you would go forward or to the side to the next image. It gave you a real immersive escape room kind of wonder. With it's computer generated graphics you had never seen before and the sound effects of like the sea in the background and all the other mystery items. I have always thought it was the first game that made you feel like you were there. I assume it will be playable on Quest 1 (I'll be testing this out myself) but I definitely want to experience Myst inside the improved visuals of Quest 2. Oculus is granting what feels like a very lovely partying gift! With Myst being officially remade in VR, I couldn't be happier.Īnd hell yes, I would order the Quest 2 just to play Myst alone. Heartbreaking news indeed due to the nostalgia behind this epic and amazing VR product. First we find out that we have seen the last iteration of the Rift HMD. When Obduction came out for VR, I was overjoyed and had assumed that this would be the closest I'd ever come to an official Myst-world in VR.Īt Facebook Connect 7 though, the news has been bitter-sweet. Back in 2014 I re-built the puzzles and worlds of Myst within the RPG, Legend of Grimrock 2 (which I always keep in my Forum Sig). I have the Myst literature, and ordered my own prototype Myst linking book (thanks to the Cyan Kickstarter). I played the original back in the early 1990's. This is a long-time coming for me! As many regulars on this forum may know, I have a long loving history with Myst.
